In my role I carry out many different variations of tasks including general maintenance of on site equipment both electrically and mechanically. I also carry out sampling duties to check the quality of the water on site. As an apprentice there is a lot of administrational tasks that have to be carried out.
I have learned a few general skills from Bentleys but due to the delay in starting my collage course I have not been able to properly develop my job specific skills as I have not yet had the knowledge provided to me to complete the tasks in hand. I have been able to develop some basic skills such as water sampling.
I do enjoy the programme as I work with some great people on site and they are very supportive. I believe that I would enjoy the programme more if I was learning more from collage but I am sure this will improve as the job goes on and the workload increases.
The programme from Bentleys side is generally structured pretty well but there could be more involvement from other parties further up in the management to increase the quality of the apprentice. The knew provider of the collage is looking much more positive and hopefully this will cause the apprentice to improve in the long-term.
Support in fairly limited from the higher departments in the company due to the high workload but from the lads on the site there is a lot of support and they are great as helping with any worries of queries that I may have.
In all honestly not to much as there is not a lot of work that I need to be in touch with them about. This should increase substantially as the apprentiship prceeds.
In some circumstances it helps a lot with the duties that I perform on site but at the moment it is very early on in the programme and there isn't a lot of tasks that I am able to carry out on my own electrically.
There are a lot of extra circular activities to get involved in I just choose not to as they are mostly based away from my home address and I have other duties outside of work.
Yes
It is a good company to work for there are just a few things that could be improved as the company has a lot of work for the Civils side just not a lot for the electrical as of yet. The employees are great also which helps with day to day tasks around the site as they are very helpful
Just be very thru when applying to the apprentice and choose wisely on which one you would like to do. I would highly recommend the Civils programme as they have a lot more resource in that area at the moment.
