I started my first year going into every zone in the leathershop learning at least one part but sometimes more depending on how quickly i picked it up which was fun and interesting, however my second year started good as i went into the offices and learnt more advanced skills but have now ended up back in the leathershop still covering when i would like to do more advanced things as more experienced.
i learnt a lot of skills in my first year but now i feel that i have stayed the same and not really pushed myself or developed as much as i would have liked too. once you know the basic skills in leathershop you can cover pretty much all parts which makes it easy, i have asked to cover more complex parts but production seen to not have the time.
I did enjoy it into my first year of my apprenticeship but honestly as time goes on it seems to be getting more draining and less things to do and the days are so long when not really having much to do or enjoying what im doing. i am disapointed
The first year was the most stuctured as i was told where i would be going, where and what parts we are expected to learn while we were in the different zones, however plans for my 2nd amd 3rd year are unplanned and changed all the time. i dont feel like i have anything new or specific to learn and its mostly recapping what i already know, seems like a waste of time in my opinion. i also dont agree with what we get out of the end of our appreticeship.
i have had guidance to help me with projects from college and people are very helpful and i know where to go if i need to talk to someone about an issue or a qury although i do feel espcially with college issues a lot more coud be done to support issues that go on.
support in college is fine, we get help on topics that we may not understand and they are explained to us. i do feel college do not take into account that we also work full time a long college and think they should be more considerate when giving deadlines for work to be handed in or completed.
i personally dont feel like i have take much from my college into my work apart from sewing. everything else we do at college is done very differently and not in the same way. we dont even use the same materials that we do in work and we work with chairs whereas in work we are working on cars.
no we dont have any. we dont even have a formal christmas party which i think is very odd considerig the type of company that we are. we go around the pubs at christmas time but nothing formal at all which is a shame because i would love that haha
No
i wouldn't say the apprenticeship is like what its advertied as and i think the company make is look a lot more of an opportunity then what it actually is. i am dissapointed with my second year. i think the first year was great learning new things but the last 2 years havnt been brilliant and i also do not enjoy college at all and think we could be doing something a lot more worth while.
to ensure they speak to people hwo have done the apprenticeship before doing it so they know exactly what thee going to be going and what job they are going to get out of it at the end. and i also think they need to be very aware of shift work as that makes the job when you finish a lot worse.
