I run physical measurements and carry out a variety of lab work. I present my results to my team where I am able to ask them for help or advice on anything that I may find. I get to meet lots of new people and am given lots of responsibility
I have learnt lots of new skills and been trained to use a lot of new scientific equipment. I am now able to run and operate the equipment myself and have also been externally trained to handle certain substances. Any new skills are always trained by a specific person who is knowledgeable and can answer any questions you may have
I really enjoy being able to learn whilst working full time. I feel I learn more through doing tasks than just doing theory in a class. I like being able to apply my knowledge to help me solve problems that I may have at work and to get examples of where my knowledge applies.
There is a dedicated apprentice coordinator and lots of mentor/buddy programmes to help new starters. There are also lots of apprentice events such as trips out and lunches to make sure that everyone has a chance to meet the other apprentices and socialise even if they don't get the chance to at work
My employer has a good range of schemes for training and wellbeing to ensure that I am capable of carrying out my job to a good standard. There is always plenty of people to ask for help with certain issues and everyone is willing to help and assist you where possible
Every week I am given plenty of time to carry out my study. my line manager regularly checks with me that I am happy with my work and study balance and she ensures that my work details are appropriate when compared with my studying to make sure that I prioritise both
My qualification allows me to be much more confident in what I am doing when I am at work. I am able to understand more of the theory behind the practical tasks I carry out. I can also give additional knowledge to help with whatever tasks I am doing at work
Lots of opportunities to join social groups as well as events throughout the year. For example, there is a Christmas party each year for all the employees. There are also other fun events throughout the year such as quiz's and dinners. There are many sports teams such as football and netball
