  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Learnt general banking knowledge and how the system works. Have developed my mental maths by calculating interest rates and payment differences. Have developed my persuasive writing through doing loan application appeals and speaking to other departments. Have developed emotional resistance by working in a highly stressful role day to day

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • We've had lots of issues with our programme providers and haven't had any contact with them since December which has left us at a disadvantage. We're also told different information from the employer and the provider, leading to even more frustration and it has not been a good experience.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Our programme is ridiculously disorganised. We have had no contact with our provider in 5 months but still expected to do our work within the original time frame adding to our already stressful role. We seem to be a team who have been ignored and forgotten which is horrible for our team morale. It's been utterly miserable.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Our employer were supportive in the beginning however in the last few months they have been very intimidating to the staff and apprentices, threatening with dismissal with ever changing deadlines and contradictory information. They have also gone back on promises we were given when we started which has greatly impacted the apprentices which has resulted in 3 leaving from our apprentices and 8 leaving from the apprentice team who started a month after us.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Absolutely none. In the first few months we had some support from our talent coach who was excellent. She left in December and we have had no contact since then and there has been no communication with management and just keep having empty promises from provider and company. Not happy

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Based on my experience thus far they don't seem to correlate too much. I know a lot more about business accounts then personal accounts but a lot of the information covered in our academic work is not relevant in our everyday role. The only things that really cross is cooling off period information.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Our work offers quite a few activities outside of work. I have been to a few work parties but generally the working environment is quite cliquey so we don't feel too welcome at other events. They do a lot for charity but we have not been advised to how to use our matched funding or development days to help our progression.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • They seem to go back on information given to staff in regards to shifts and benefits and it is an incredibly stressful role for the money. We feel like we have almost been mis sold the role and upper staff can sometimes use intimidation to get results from staff and a lot of staff have had to get medical intervention for stress

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • make sure you read the information fully first. Be aware the information day is also unofficially assessed. Read up on the values first and any apps that you find beneficial and why. Don't be alarmed if they write everything down. Make sure you dress appropriately and get to know the other people
