  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I line manage a team of up to 12 people and also deal with the operational running of the branch. Risk and control of said risk is a very big aspect of my role and I am responsible to ensure staff is trained and compliant with policy and regulations. I also manage the branch together with a branch manager to ensure it runs smoothly.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned how to line manage people and how to lead by example, have great conversations and what to look out for when helping customers. I learned a lot about banking rules and regulations, which play a big role in my job. I have also developed my people skills and find having difficult conversations easier.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do enjoy my programme although at times it is very hard to fit in with my work schedule .I do like the variation and the study and gaining more knowledge. I enjoy the 1-2-1s and caching up and discussing progress. I like getting a new qualification/certificate and applying this knowledge to my job.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is very well organised with Monthly reviews, updates and support from a coach. contact is made via phone, emails and face to face. The only downside is again fitting it in with the normal workload. I do think it is well organised from a teachers view however my company could do more to ensure the workload is manageable and fits in.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I do get time given to work on this, however we have to spend 20% of time in work on the scheme. I don't get any support or a reduced workload to accommodate for this. Yes, I am allowed to manage my own diary and work on the apprenticeship whenever I want however it is hard to fit in the time.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I do get sufficient support here and I get emails with what to do next and what to focus on. I get support with questions and mock tests which are then graded. I get tested and given video conferences with tips on how to study and prepare for an exam, which has helped me.

    9/10

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Very well especially regulation knowledge wise, complaint wise and customer moment wise. It has helped me realise we can really support customers as a bank and it's not all sales and risk. It made me realise a lot regarding the level of care and customer service that goes into banking.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, I am involved in a few of those, from scam and fraud events to networking events. I do enjoy going and representing the company and doing my best to help the wider community. This is something I will keep doing as it is important to remain up to date with the latest trends/frauds.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a good place to work and colleagues do get a lot of support, inside and outside of work. Moving through the ranks in the company I have realised that we do genuinely care about our customers and colleagues. There always will be that focus on commercial growth but the pressure is very manageable and not toxic at all compared to the horror stories of the past you hear about banking.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • Be yourself and think of examples where you've done something to help others. be digitally aware and do a little research on banking apps and alternatives. It is fine to use personal examples of things like teamwork (friends playing a game for example). Take your time to do training, you can rush it but you're not timed to do it. It's better to relax and take it all in than to rush and panic in front of customers.
