I work in the desktop, device and print team for Barclays collaboration services. I currently track progress of the big 'Get2One' project which is underway to get all Barclays employees to using only one device. I have to join meetings daily/ weekly to understand the progress the team is making and chase any actions which might be close to deadlines.
I have already learnt lots of new words and acronym's which are used in a professional workplace. I have also expanded my skills with excel, learning how to do VLOOKUP's etc. Report writing is another skill I have learnt in my role. I am still currently training on ITIL project management.
I really enjoy my program at Barclays as they offer a lot of help and support towards the university degree as well as furthering your skills in your job role. When I come out of being an apprentice with my degree I will hold 4 years work experience with one of the worlds biggest banks.
The program is extremely well organised and well structured with every year receiving new objectives and goals to work towards. We also are always aware of what is going on for apprentices and have a good contact with university too. Meetings are held with managers and Careers coaches to ensure everything is okay.
Barclays as an employer provides so much support in furthering skills and earning out degree. If we have deadlines approaching, it is possible to work from home to ensure we do our best. If we aren't enjoying our role/ struggling with anything we have specific careers coaches available to support us.
We receive a considerable amount of support from Manchester Metropolitan University. We have coach's who come into our workplace for a meeting with ourselves and our managers every three months to check that we are on top of deadlines and we aren't too busy with work where we can't do our University work.
The assignment's we get given in University link into our job role in the work place. Writing report's and using business language is a skill we get to practice at work and in class. It helps us to perform well at work as we have to use situations in University assignments.
Yes, we are very lucky at our site in Knutsford, we have a gym, we have tennis courts and there are many options for cycling clubs etc. We also have beautiful scenery around the site to do walks throughout the day, helping us to remove ourselves from sitting behind a computer all day.
Yes
We get our degree paid for, four years of work experience, benefits such as discounts for working with Barclays. Also, there is a wide variety of teams and job roles available, something for everyone. It is also a world recognised company, something employers in the future will recognise on a CV.
There is an assessment day, this is where you have to make an impression in order to be given the job. Dress smart, involve yourself and others. Prepare for your interview, have strong examples from college/ a part-time job. Be yourself, show how much you could give to the bank and you will be okay.
