I am a change manager within Filegateway. From day to day i focus on getting our changes raised and managing the development and deployment of changes. I also manage PR's. I run multiple calls dedicated to solving issues and getting our team prepared for changes and wider releases that occur.
One skill my role has improved is my communication skills. Now i am leading calls and managing people and this has made me step up and try to communicate better. As well as this my attention to detail has improved, I need to make sure our changes are in line with the rules and that they are clear.
I have enjoyed my programme, i like the 2 sided feel. I have a real full time job in which i have responsibilities and feel like i am making a real difference. Also i have the balance of going to college which is enjoyable as a contrast and also a link to the work i am doing.
It is well structured and organised. We have the dates of our college well in advance and this allows for a lot of prep time. In my job role i have a lot of support from my line manager who gives me a balance between my job and my college commitment.
I receive support from a few different people. I have my Line manager for my job role. My Apprentice buddy for more informal issues. I have my skills coach for any college issues. Also i have my apprentice coach for any issues regarding apprenticeship. I feel i have a lot of support to turn to if i had any issues.
I do have support from my Skills Coach for my college work. They meet with me every few months to discuss progress. This is useful as i do have questions that i like to have answered. Also i have emailed my skills coach multiple times and they have responded quickly and have been a useful resource.
My qualification is useful as it links to my current job role. In the external training we have we need to link it back to our current role constantly so i always know how what we have learnt fits into our current role and what we can use it for.
There are a lot of extra curricular activities to be involved in. I for example took part in a careers fair at my old school representing Barclays and this was extremely enjoyable. Also i have attended a few social events within my own team. There is also lots of leisure/sport clubs.
Yes
It is a very good employer that has allowed me to settle very quickly. I feel that my character has developed and i have matured during my first 6 months at Barclays. I think there are plenty of good opportunities to take here at Barclays and i actively encourage anyone of any age to apply.
Firstly to apply even if you are not interested in IT, there are plenty of different roles and you will find one that fits you. Also to make sure you take any opportunity for work experience here as i had it and it was a good insight into the culture of Barclays.
