My role is to learn about how the assembly line is run and operates on a daily basis. I am also learning how manufacturers improve their process and cut down on waste by completing tasks that eliminate waste and improve the overall efficiency of work and also the assembly line itself. I also learn various parts of manufacturing such as electronics, welding and bench fitting.
I have learned how to weld correctly, how to install electronic components as well as improve my ICT skills. I completed my Level 2 in Functional Skills in ICT in Februrary half term. I am still developing these skills at work, such as improving on how to use microsoft excel. I have also learned the different tools manufacturers use to improve the quality of production.
I have very much enjoyed my programme so far and believe it has developed and improved my skills. Being able to say I work for BMW Group/Rolls Royce is something I am proud of and working for this company will provide me with the skills and experience I need to have a successful career in the automotive industry.
The way the course has been run is organised but there is room for improvement. Communication could be better as majority of the time it is another colleague telling the others what the plan/course of action is. The course has had a few issues in regards to the UPK questions; we were following a different version of the questions and not the up to date ones. It is sorted now but should have been done at the start. OneFile still hasnt been explained properly.
I have spent the majority of the first year at college so we haven't needed much support at the moment. Rolls Royce has given me the necessary support so far in any issues i have had. They have also help me settle in at work and have always stated if there was ever an issue I could always speak to them.
They have provided me with the necessary training in order to complete my qualification to the best of my ability. They have given me additional training such as the level 2 function skills in ICT which has helped when carrying out actvities at work. The college has told me that if i ever started struggling with the work, they could provide me with a tutor.
I feel my qualification has helped me perform better at work as it has allowed to understand how manufacturing and car inducworks, certain tasks that need to be carried out and why. The training I have recieved has built my confidence at work and allows me to continuely improve my skills.
As far as i am aware there isn't any extra-curricular activities at work. The company is big on networking and taking part in social events such as visiting schools and going to fairs. There are chances for us to go to these events and it is something i hope to do in the near future.
Yes
BMW group is one of the leading automotive companies in thw world and this is because they have incredibly hard working people working for them and provide career opportunities for young people and are eager for them to progress and develop. They believe we are the future and want to provide us with the best training and experience as possible to build successful careers.
The tips and advice i would give to others is to learn as much about the company and manufacturing as possible before starting. I would also tell them to make the most of their chances and learn about other parts of the company. They are a lot of successful people who work for BMW so learn from them as well.
