  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day work can be fairly diverse ranging from being part of the production line helping assemble and build the product at multiple different stages to being part of a separate team carrying out side/ misc projects or other fairly important parts of the company such as tooling or logistics.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have been given the opportunity to learn a considerable amount of new skills and even develop some existing ones further, this is because I have mostly been in environments I would never normally have the chance to be exposed to. Some skills I have still yet to develop, however, this may change depending on what roles I get the chance to learn in the future.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My enjoyment of the program has been fairly turbulent, some parts I enjoy greatly as it fulfills my expectations and helps me grow both personally and professionally, however, there are also some areas where a lot is still left to desire as I feel they are under utilized and not appropriately applied.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Our apprenticeship structure has been fairly unorganized, whether that is due to the fact that we are on a new apprenticeship scheme called the apprenticeship 'standard' or that is something to do with a miscommunication between our employer and the training provider. Aside from that our lecturers have mostly been very good and are always willing to help.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Our employer has given us a fairly good amount of support when relating to our actual professional job role, however, when it comes to the training provider as previously stated the communication is lackluster therefore we are essentially the intermediary between the two so the support is fragmented on most occasions.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We have received a great deal of support from out training provider they are always willing to help to ensure that we are achieving the best grades we can within our specific qualifications, although there were some teething problems when we first started these have been for the best part resolved.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • We get some use out of the qualification we study with our training provider in our actual workplace, this is in terms of the hands on training and development of some general professional skill that are applicable within the workplace. Although these might not completely specific to our course they are fairly transferable and help in a general sense.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are very few extra-curricular activities to take part in that have been made aware to me, whether this is due to the length of time we have been employed I am unsure. That isn't to say I haven't been a part of any extra-curricular activities as I have been a part of some really fun and enjoyable out of work projects.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BMW Group to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel although BMW group does boast a very good quality working environment where the employees are well looked after I feel as though how good your experience is with company can depend on a lot of factors which are completely out of your control. This being said I also think it can largely depend on what type of work you find enjoyable etc.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • When applying for a job in BMW Group or any other motor manufacturer make sure you know for certain what type of job you are applying for, the end result/ qualifications and your general future prospects. When it comes to interviews or assessment days the most important characteristics are confidence and being friendly because working in a team and making your own decisions are key things employers look for.
