  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in Business Transformation working on a programme to improve the HR system within BA. I am normally pulling together packs for meetings with key stakeholders along with taking minutes I those meetings. I support other project managers in their day to day role and ensure everyone is on task.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • In my current placement I have learnt a lot about Project management within BA and key terminology. My Communication and Presentation skills have also improved because I need to communicate in many ways. I have become more confident in going up to some one and asking them the question rather than emailing.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme a lot - it is extremely beneficial and I have been able to take a lot from it with a year and a half left to go. There is lots of learn and everyday is different which keeps me on my toes and looking forward to more.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is organised and structured with lots of notice for workshops. Normally there is always some to help. However sometimes workshops and meetings can feel rushed. Apprentice Managers can be extremely busy so sometimes getting information from them can prove to be difficult and may receive and delayed response from managers.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is continuous support from BA. My apprentice manager and placement manager are both very supportive and make sure that all necessary work is being completed to a good standard. You are able to drop them a call with any issues and will be happy to support and help when necessary.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Due to training provider being offsite it can be difficult to contact or get information. There is normally a very delayed response and communication can get lost. you are all to contact them and call them if necessary. However, when training provider is onsite every 8 weeks a lot of information and time is given.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The workshops that are provided are extremely helpful and I am able to link them to work I am doing. Many of the assignments I have completed, I have been able to link in with what I do day to day and use real life experience when also writing those assignments.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are - many meet ups, team away days and team meetings take place within departments. I recently went on a team away day which consisted of going to Comic Relief headquarters to learn key skills and what they do. We also volunteered in a local estates community garden to help bring it to life.

  • 9a. Would you recommend British Airways to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It has a very nice atmosphere and the support from all employees is good. You departments understand you are apprentices but give you the work that any other employee would be doing. It is definitely not like you traditional 'apprentice' and you take on quite an important role in most departments. The development is also very good.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Airways?
  • It is not about what you know but the potential and experience they see in you. For apprenticeships they look for people who have the potential to shine and grow. BA don't expect you to be the finished products because you are in a developmental programme. They want to see you grow.
