In my day to day role at ASM, I build different sub assemblies such as; APC Systems, which clamp and snug boards for different purposes. Also in my day to day role, I build conveyors for TRS machines. These conveyors allow for printing multiple printing circuit boards, up to three at a time.
In my current job, at ASM Assembly Systems, I have learnt many new skills, such as building Sub Assemblies and Main Build. The Skills include using torque wrench, checking critical measurements which may affect performance down the line. Attaching sub assemblies to the main machine to build up to a complete machine.
The extent of my enjoyment extends to having the opportunity to further my career path within a successful company whilst not sacrificing a full time wage. I enjoy the responsibility of completing a sub assembly unit build to high specification following the high detail instructions through pro-works and analysing for my course.
The programme is well organised, through regular emails stating appointment times with regular visits to track my progress. It is structured in a fashion of which enables me to work effectively and efficiently, whilst not affecting my day to day role as an ASM employee. My experience has been positive.
The support given to me by my employer has been positive and effective. I am given time to complete assignments, have meetings with the college representative, Dean, and have been allowed sub assembly unit builds to work upon to further my progress on the NVQ course, such as APC Systems.
Support from my training provider, Weymouth College, has been fantastic, although I have only been seen by Dean Spearing. Despite only have contact with one member, I feel the one to one dynamic works for me and has encouraged a more relax yet effective way of completing the course successfully.
I feel my qualification, through Weymouth College, helps me perform better in my role by getting me to look at my work more critically and aiding me to understand why certain ways of doing my jobs helps me complete my work more effectively and safely. Also it given me confidence to do more intricate builds.
My work place at ASM Assembly Systems offers a plethora of extra-curricular activities such as, weekly football meets, sports and social groups, staff forum. The company also offer rambling groups, days out to theatres and shopping trips; these would be organised through out the year at different times and are seasonal dependant.
Yes
I would recommend this company to a friend, on the proviso they had a full time contract as that offers you more opportunity and a chance to grow in the industry. This company however fails at looking after their staff on rolling year to year contracts, so it's not a cut and dry answer.
Advice I would give to any willing applicant, is check to see if it is a full time permanent contract. I feel on a temporary contract this place is not a place that will nurture you, however on a permanent contract they would be more willing. A positive attitude and a can do, "yes man" attitude will get you far in this place
