I produce self assessment tax returns from information provided by clients. Speak to clients on the phone and via email. Speak to various colleagues in accounts and payroll to gather information for the tax returns if needed. Draft letters to be sent to clients. Research new rules and regulations in tax. Help out with payroll when required.
I have learnt how to interact and communicate in a professional manner when dealing with clients. I have improved my communication skills in general on a day to day basis with my colleagues. My IT skills have improved by learning how to use new software. I am currently undertaking the Association of Taxation Technicians qualification which has improved my study skills.
The people I work with are always so friendly and willing to help. We all work as part of a team in which communication is vital. I am more than happy with my everyday work life because we all support each other. To further improve the team morale, regular work outings are organised so that we can all meet each other outside of work.
The training I am doing is with First Intuition and they are very helpful. I can email or call whenever I am struggling with anything. The study days are set out well in advance so I can organise my workload around them. The induction day was helpful and interactive too as they showed how the apprenticeship would be set out and how to use OneFile.
My employer is extremely helpful and supportive. If I need some time to study leading up to my exams, they are more than happy for me to book some time off. They give verbal praise when I do well in an exam and always ask how I am doing to make sure that I'm not stressed.
I have a skills and development coach who is very kind and keeps in contact to make sure everything is going well. The mentors are super helpful. They will answer any technical or exam related questions as best they can and are there to ensure you're getting the best out of your apprenticeship.
The communication aspect is key. Without it, you won't get far. My apprenticeship helps deal with time sensitive events and how to organise so I am not overwhelmed or stressed to the point where it affects my work or lifestyle. Learning and revising with First Intuition has improved my knowledge towards tax and I feel though it has progressed my work.
There are opportunities on a regular basis for networking events in the local area. I am invited to these either through colleagues or via email. My employer organises various activities outside of work, such as bowling or meals out for us to interact in a more relaxed environment and provides a coach so that we can all enjoy it.

I have worked at here for almost a year and the atmosphere is so enjoyable. Everyone is welcoming and helpful and I am not afraid so speak my mind when I have an opinion. The support for further training and qualifications is encouraged as it improves our clients experience. I truly enjoy my job because of the people around me.
Be open and honest about yourself. Be ready to get to know everyone and for them to get to know you. Be willing to expand your knowledge through hard work and courses. There isn't a lot of physical space available for new people so make sure you sell yourself well so you are chosen.
