My roles and responsibilities are to produce high quality and bespoke electronic, electrical and electro-mechanical equipment to the highest of standards. The jobs I receive, typically from my line manager, comprise of manufacturing, assembling, modifying, designing or repairing a product or system. I am also able to assist other engineers and technicians in their work, or observe them if a new skill I am yet to learn would be required
I have furthered my skills in electronics and processors doing jobs for my manager and external companies. i learnt mechanical and electrical basics at the NWTC and I have become familiar with the machinery and systems in the workshop and have obtained skills on machinery that was not available to me at the training council
I love the fact that we do not do the same repetitive things in every day to day activities so for example you could be working on the accelerators one day and the next your soldering micro components onto a board. The variety of jobs in which i do in day to day life is very wide.
i believe the organisation has structured it very well in the fact that we are trained for the first 5 months and hen return having the variety of skills we have picked up. although we return to site we still do one day a week of college or university in some cases
at daresbury i believe the support to be extraordinary. although were a big company everyone is connected so if i have any problems i do not hesitate to go to anyone here. my manager and peers are both people i can go to for anything i have an issue or question about
in the past 2 years i have been with NWTC i have received great help from both my training officer and people at NWTC. if i have any questions about my assignments or my NVQ i know i can always go to them for help or any questions i have.
the topics that we cover in our assignments do help in my day to day working life. my HNC is in electrical and my apprenticeship is in engineering but the 2 do come together quite often. also the health and safety side of it is covered with my training officer so this comes in handy also
When the opportunity comes up to go on an outreach day to inspire younger people to who are looking for an apprenticeship at Daresbury Laboratory I will always take it. I and other apprentices will assist our apprentice coordinator on this day. I have attended 2 this year and they were both a great success.
Yes
as it is a great place to work and the people here are all supporting and the environment we work in is great. i do not hesitate to go to my manager about anything and also the skills we learn here are crucial skills any engineer will need in the future
when in the interview i would recommend being confident. you will not know all the questions they ask but if you show an interest and have some understanding then you have more of a chance to be successful. also i would recommend bringing something you have done elsewhere as this shows you have a passion for engineering
