During my week long work experience placement I had the opportunity to spend time in 4 different departments and was also able to attend a variety of presentations on topics ranging from litigation to entry into law. The tasks that I was given by the trainee solicitors were really varied and enjoyable, from research to reviewing documents, and I was never bored.
I have had the opportunity to develop my soft skills in areas such as communication, as well as growing in confidence in a new environment. The most important thing that I learnt, however, were skills relating directly to the study and practice of la,w which will hopefully stand me in good stead in the future.
I really enjoyed the programme, it was a very itneresting inisght into the world of commercial law and I would recommend the opportunity to anybody els ewho has an interest in the law as either an academic subject or a career.
Everybody was really friendly and approachable. I felt valued as I was given useful tasks and had lots of opportunities to ask questions.
A very well-structured programme with presentations each morning, followed by spending the rest of the day in a specific departmenton a rotational basis.
Everybody that I met was very supportive.
I had lots of opportunities to ask questions if I had a problem and tasks were explained clearly to me.
The placement is unpaid and expenses weren't paid either, although we were given lunch on the first day.
I had the opportunity to go out to lunch with one team, and we were invited to any social events taking place during the week there.
Yes
One of the few law firms to offer a structured school work experience placement. I have learnt a lot and it is a foot in the door at a great firm with a fantastic atmosphere.
Spend time on your application to ensure that it is of a high standard. When you are actually completing the placement, remember to be as enthusiastic as possible and really make the most of the placement.
