  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am training as an iOS Software developer, whilst working on coding new features for Barclays' Banking app.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Prior to my apprenticeship I had no coding experience what so ever. Whereas now, 1 year in, I am able to read and write code to a reasonable standard.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am enjoying that I am learning a new skill, and love the work place environment where I am doing so. Everyone I work with is friendly, and helpful towards my development, to the point that I enjoy coming to work each day.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well structured. There are times where I find university and work deadlines challenging, as the 2 can conflict. Sometimes however, it feels that some separate apprentice objectives that are set are pointless towards my job role development, and get in the way of more important objectives.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I get the right amount of support needed to help my growth. If ever I feel like I need more support, I don't feel that I wouldn't get it if I requested it.

    9/10

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I get the right amount of support from my training provider. If ever I require additional support, I only have to email my tutors, and often they are very fast to get back to me. I also gain additional support from a tutor that comes to the workplace.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The technical elements of the course further develop my background knowledge which are useful to know at times in my job role, even though the course doesn't have a direct link to my job role.

    6/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Not strictly, but we have an on site gym which I go to on a daily basis.

    6/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Barclays gives a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills, whilst earning a competitive salary for an apprenticeship. The working environment is fantastic and makes me feel very comfortable.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • Put as much effort as possible into the application and assessment, as the outcome is worth it if you're successful. My only regret is not applying for an apprenticeship at Barclays sooner.
