Each day brings different challenges. We work with a diverse portfolio of clients in different industries and perform audit work out at the client offices most of the time. We interact with different members of staff at the client sites, as well as get lots of coaching from more senior members of the audit team. You get a lot of responsibility for your age.
We study with the ICAEW to become a Chartered Accountant. The training is very good and prepares you well to sit the exams. You learn a lot of the skills and knowledge on the job. You gain a lot of soft skills as well as time management and efficieny.
The programme is very intensive but means that you learn so much and gain fantastic experience very quickly. The company is very much into personal development and they are keen to promote from within. The work ethic is extremely high, which does mean that expectations are also very high.
The management seem to appreciate the work that we do and they are often keen to keep you working on their clients. If you complete good work then you should receive good feedback to reflect the effort put in. The company values your input highly and it doesn't take long to become a highly values member of the team.
The programme is very well structured. All of the learning and development traning as well as ICAEW training is already planned out for the foreseeable future. The management team try to vary the experience that you get, so they often try to mix up the work that you do.
Kaplan provide our training for the ICAEW. They are quite supportive as they provide us with the necessary learning materials for the exams.
The management team are very supportive and help whenever possible. Your counsellor likes to support your development and they look out for you if you have any problems.
The salary is reasonable for my age, although you could earn more doing something else. The overall package is however more important, as you are gaining a high level qualification that is fully paid for and leads to much better salaries once qualified.
There are quite a few social events that you can attend with the office as well as with other EY offices. There are meals out, drinks out etc, as well as the Social Committee coming up with events that you can do- eg. go to the races, or have a golf day etc.
Yes
Very prestigious and growing in the market.
Be very professional in appearance and manner. Be yourself at all times and look for opportunities to show your skills or knowledge in something. Try and get some work experience in the sector, or at least get something to put on you CV, even if it's a Saturday job.
