Apprentice Review

I go to a training campus full time where I stay for a period of 5 months and attend lessons that teach me about being safe on the railways and teach me about specifics related to my role. I also get lots of time to book holidays however generally busy

I’ve learned how to carry out basic maintenance tasks in as well as doing them safely. I’ve had to work in teams and this has developed my team understanding and problem solving skills. As well as these things I have gained skills in being able to ask for help and seek advise

At first moving away I didn’t enjoy my programme as I felt a little bit home sick. However after settling in I really got used to it and became more independent.. this has been challenging and although daunting at the start I’m glad I made the choice as I really enjoy it now

The programme doesn’t have a fault with how well organised it is. The lessons I attend are structured well and fit nicely in a time table where I can easily get to the classrooms I need to be in order to be on time. I also feel like I learn all the relevant things

I receive a good amount of support. Although the classes are at different times when I don’t have classes I have a good amount of time to make use of the facilities such as the canteen and the sport facilities on sight which is provided by the employer. I find this helps me wind down sometimes

The training provided is good it fits within what I am doing well and gives me a good advantage when I go on sight as I know what to expect and how to do jobs correctly. I also like how I can ask questions any time I like either face to face or over and email

My qualification is specific and tailored to the needs of my job role. It gives me a wide understanding and grows my knowledge way before I need to go on sight whilst partaking the qualification I also have to act like I’m on sight which gets me in good habits

There are a range of events that take place and also often. There’s various different events and competitions for sport on sight and also events that get people together for talks and guidance. There’s events for meeting other departments of the company so that you can network and understand other roles

Network rail are one of the biggest companies in the uk with an outstanding reputation. There is always going to be work therefore it is a long term career. They also train the staff to the best they can be making it a safe and friendly environment to work in

When applying make sure your cv is well structured and highlighting your key skills make sure your cover letter shows a keen interest and always use the correct spelling as this is a first impression. I would also be polite and prepare for the online assessments so that you can do well
