Apprentice engineer Review

I help out with the teams and get my experience for my log book at the same time. I learn my trade and get hands on experience and gain knowledge working on the track and infrastructure around the uk mainly based in the midlands where I visit different sites in a van

I have learnt how to look for faults using visual inspections and different methods of testing. As well as working well with groups and problem solving as well as using my own initiative to get an understanding as well as figuring things out. My main skill I have learnt is to work under pressure

I enjoy my programme a lot. I feel that the job suits me and I like having a job that includes manual work rather than an office job. I don’t really like how intense the learning side of it is but it will be worth it when I am qualified

My programme could be structured slightly better however it is good because I learn a lot in a short period of time. It could be structured a little different so that it is not as intense as this can be quite stressful as it takes away a bit of my social life

My employer are as supportive as they need to be. They don’t force help on me how ever they do always offer a helping hand if I ever need it or ask. The company is massive so understandably they can not always check on every body who works here

My training provider teach me a lot in order for me to work towards my qualifications. I feel that there is a lot I wouldn’t learn if I didn’t get taught the subjects I do. I also like how they are happy to answer any questions that I might have

My qualifications are relevant to my role and they help me understand the basics before I am in a field environment. I get a lot of help and I enjoy learning and progression this helps me focus and stay motivated even on a cold rainy Monday morning in the winter.

There is a wide variety and plenty of different activities people organise within work for outside of work for example I enjoy tennis a play with a few others on our days off. There are also loads and loads of networking events for everyone to get information and learn about different elements of network rail

Because it is a good company with a lot of good jobs and opportunities for my future. They also pay well and care about their reputation and this is important to me because it makes me feel like i am part of something big and I count towards some thing

I would give advise and tips to people applying for network rail to always be confident in your abilities and show that you are ambitious and determined to do well in order to achieve as well as making sure you present yourself professionally and approach each question they ask you in a sensible manner
