I help alongside fully qualified technicians on the railway. I specialise in signalling therefore look to check that the signals are working and attend any sights where there have been reported any faults in order to make sure they are maintained and working as well as keeping the track safe
I am always developing my skills and learning new things. I have learnt how to work well with others whilst gaining technical skills relevant to my job, such as learning how to carry out set tasks and tests as well as fault finding and visual inspections making sure I am doing it correctly
My programme is quite enjoyable I enjoy the practical side of things however I dislike all of the course work and how intense it can be at times, especially in the first year where I had hardly any free time outside of the work place. I do however enjoy it over all
The programme is structured very well giving me a lot of time to learn a lot within a couple of years I feel that I get a fair amount of hands on experience as well as class room time. And I feel that there are plenty of people to help
My employer offer a considerable amount of support making sure we pass our apprenticeship or it is made as easy as it can for us to learn everything and constantly grow our knowledge. I do find it easy to talk to every one and I never mind about asking for help
I get the support I need from my training provider offer a considerable amount of support making sure we pass our apprenticeship or it is made as easy as it can for us to learn everything and constantly grow our knowledge. I also get a lot of help with everything
It helps me because I learn about how things work. With this understanding it gives me a good amount of understanding when it comes to the real thing which makes my life easier and easier when it comes to fault finding. What else helps is the practice tests that we do
There is so many different extra activities to be involved with outside of work. From sports teams, to award nights and even networking events and socials where our abilities can be spoken about and we can talk about progression and options for the future it also gives a good chance to meet some of the other team leaders
Yes
It is one of the largest organisations in the uk where there are constant room for improvement and growth giving everyone a lot of opportunities for career progression. I also find it an enjoyable and fun place to work where I have made strong friendships and gained a lot of knowledge
I would advise to practice for the assessments and get to the interview nice and early whilst dressed smart and act professional. I would also ask any questions that I would want answered on the telephone interview where they are very helpful and try to help you with answers that will help you do well
