  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Accountable for all aspects of the store, managing store costs, training recruitment and development. ensuring all services are available to the customer at all time, full availability, quality products and great customer service. I also support other stores on my area to ensure we run smoothly.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Managing different types of people and using different approaches with different personalities. Using information to identify trends and acting on the back of these. Managed a store for 8 months gave good experience of the expectations required on a daily basis and not having someone to fall back on, developing as a leader

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed my time with my retail trainer and have learned new skills developing more as a leader. i have had an opportunity to showcase my learning running a store. However from an Iceland view there has not been enough time allowed to be able to meet deadlines as lots of movement between stores and being sucked into the operation

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • From a lifetime view i have had clear guidance on what is expected. from an Iceland view these have not matched up and being between a number of stores has slowed down my progress rapidly. Feedback would be allocated time (longer than 3 hours per week) to complete and remaining in a quieter store to allow time to complete

    5/10

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • In the beginning there was not a lot of support however since my new Area Manager has come in he has supported me a lot, fixing any issues i have raised with him around my program. I feel i have the time now to complete the program successfuly.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have been supported very well by my trainer with clear guidance on any gaps in my knowledge. Clear communication has helped get me back on track with each visit we have had together. The support in preparing for the end point assessment has been excellent.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have been given a broad view of how a leader thinks and operates, it has made me have a wider range of knowledge on headings that i would not have looked at before. this will benefit me hugely when i run my own store in the near future,

    8/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Charity week was the most recent where we raised plenty of money for charity

    7/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend Iceland to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Iceland has been my life for the past 5 years and i have loved every minute of it, there have been frustrations as there are everywhere but i have had so many great opportunities and the people are fantastic, incredible passionate for the business as am i. There is great opportunity for development as i started as a frontline colleague working my way up the ladder onto the apprentice store manager role.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Iceland?
  • You must have a 'can do' attitude, be incredibly passionate and self driven. There are great opportunities for you if you put the work in and show what you can do, always be as flexible as you can be and go above and beyond for the company as all of s do.
