I supervise my team, organise tasks, run out stock, open/lock the store, manage the store, create schedules, accept depot deliveries, deal with cash and many more tasks.
Definitely, doing this course has allowed me to create lots of additional learning for myself, and emotionally develop myself into a stronger person.
I have really enjoyed my programme, it has opened new doors for me in my career and created additional learning experiences, that I started applying to my work before I had even half way completed the programme.
At the start of the programme it was difficult for me to organise time for me to do the required activities due to poor management however as I have progressed through this has greatly improved.
Upon starting the programme, because we were unaware of how much time was needed to complete work and tasks etc, it was hard for my employer to support me, however after receiving more information, this improved.
I have received the most support from my trainer, they have always been easy to contact regarding questions to do with completing activities and also so supportive with general moral support. As well as this, they have been really easy to get along with, informal, and really comforting if I have been worried about anything in particular.
Throughout doing all the activities in my apprenticeship, it has made me realise I have been doing a lot of things included without even realising but also has allowed me to improve on things I am already doing. As well as this, it has shown me I can change certain ways that I work to improve my team and my store. I have been able to apply everything I have learnt as I have learnt it to my role in store.
At my store we sometimes take part in outside of store social activities but this doesnt occur very often. There are no networking events that I have ever been made aware of for us to take part in.
Yes
I would recommend Iceland to a friend because in my experience, in the most part, it has been a joyous place to work, with many opportunities for extra learning and development, although there have been difficult days, it has allowed me to grow myself emotionally and just generally as a person, I started Iceland as a 16 year old teenager with not many life skills, I am now ready to take on whatever life throws at me.
Be prepared to deal with the general public, this is not always easy, customers can be difficult (this being a polite way of putting it) but the positives always outweigh the negatives, your team and colleagues will always support you. Always remember the great times you have had when the going gets a little bit tough.
