I took part in the Digital Insight Week, where I was giving a brief to solve a problem with an IoT device. Over the week, different employees of the company exposed us to different technologies and ideas that we could incorporate and help improve our idea. At the end, we gave a presentation to senior members of the company to show the fruits of our labour.
I learnt presentation skills, learnt how to work in a team in a professional environment. I also developed my digital skills, such as using new programs to collaborate with my team using G Suite Apps. The biggest thing I learnt was how LEAN thinking and planning helps to develop ideas.
I very much enjoyed the digital insight week at PwC. It was much better than traditional work experience weeks, as the activities were engaging. I enjoyed the Apprentice-style task that the company gave us, and it really gave me an insight into the world of work that I am very interested in
It was very well organised. At the start, we did bingo to introduce ourselves to our fellow peers. Everyday, we were given an overview of our itinerary. I liked how on the final day, all of the knowledge we gained over the week could be shown through our presentations, which was very fulfilling
I learnt a lot about the culture of the company. I could easily see myself fitting in to the laid-back, flexible collaborative culture of the company. The people are very friendly, and the offices are very open, which is what I prefer in a workplace. The flexibility of working from home is something appealing to me as well
The insight week gave a very brief insight into technology. Learning about what workers do on a day to day basis was very helpful. Even though I do not want to do a technology based degree even after the insight week, the tech sector is a lively place to work in.
I was paid a wage of £9.64 an hour for 37.5 hours of work in 5 days. Meals were provided on the first and last day, but on the other days we had to buy our own meals. Travel on the train to and from was not reimbursed for this experience, which is a shame
Yes. The company encouraged us to email the employees and start developing our networks as it is vital for the future. The employees who gave lectures were friendly, and encouraged us to connect with them on LinkedIN. Before the insight week, the company also invited all of us to open office mornings
Yes
The company is very flexible and employee friendly. For someone who wants to be challenged, yet have the flexibility of this brilliant working environment, this is the perfect company for them. The social aspect of the company is unlike any other companies that I have been to, and encourages individuals to always improve themselves
I would tell potential workers to try to get into the company as young as possible and email anyone to try to find out more information. People should try to find out as much about the company and research the core values of the company on the website (I found this helpful on the assessment days)
