We spent time in the PwC conference room listening to professionals talk about the specific job role as well as how the current technology they are working on and how it is implemented in the real world. We also visited university of Birmingham as well as creating a group project from the information learnt over the week.
I learnt about robotics, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Diminished reality as well as different types of cyber security like encryption, why strong passwords work so well, how all the above things are used in day to day life and how we could input these ideas with our pitch. We also learnt how to create powerful pitches.
I enjoyed my work experience a lot as it taught me a lot things I didn't know about to do with technology but how it was impacting me daily. I also enjoyed the opportunity to learn from my peers as there was a range of knowledge between our group.
It was very organised as we were shown the plan of the activities for the day and when our lunch breaks will be and how long they would be. The speakers were all promptly booked for each session and were always on time. Emails were sent out for approximate timings for the week.
We learnt that the environment is very relaxed with the 'dress for your day' policy which allows employees to dress for how they plan their day to go. We learnt that the company values honesty and being open towards their employees. I felt that I was made to feel very comfortable and able to fit in.
It showed me how there is use for technology in everything and ensured me that I probably wouldn't want to do IT in the future and I am more interested in professional services like finance and economics which is also easily applied as I'm more intered in maths.
Yes, I was paid £9.64 an hour and travel was also booked for us if requested as well as lunch being provided on both the Monday and the Friday but you were required to get lunch on the other 3 days. I don't know if travel costs were reimbursed as didn't require it.
During lunches and sessions there were opportunities to ask the professionals, graduates and apprentices about their experience here and what they do, how they do it, what team they work in and how to improve our ideas. Our first lunch was proper set networking lunch. They helped a lot to figure out.
Yes
Because they help a lot and provide further opportunities with them in the future like apprenticeships and work and university apprenticeships. They help you get experience in assessment technques and pitching which is essential in most fields.
I would tell people to make sure they know how to get here to avoid traffic and if they eant to make the most out of their experience ask questions as they may not be able to recieve answers from anyone else so make use of their time.
