Managing the store team and making sure the team know what they are required to do. Achieving store and company specific targets ensuring we are safe and legal at all times. Review of the reports available in order to know what we are achieving and where we need to improve day to day and cascade that information to the team.
I have developed a lot of skills since being put in the store manager role, including but not limited to, managing staff performance on a formal level including the investigation and disciplinary process. The use of reports to identify areas of improvement, create targets and track our progress throughout the process.
I find the programme doesn't really affect my time in store and i am still able to do my job role without the programme causing any issues so in that respect i am enjoying the programme. I don't enjoy the way it fits with the company though as it doesn't feel like it's a main focus to get people through the apprenticeship.
Starting from the induction I believe the programme is structured well and giving the opportunity to liaise with the trainer helps to schedule the work that needs to be completed around your day to day tasks. The monthly meetings give a good structure and timeline for you to complete the modules.
I haven't received much support from my employer so far although there has been a lot of encouragement to complete the apprenticeship. I have been on a course with the other staff who are also in the process of completion so I have people in the company to give and receive support from.
There hasn't been much support from my training provider as I haven't felt the need to ask for help, and I believe my trainer hasn't felt the need to pursue me for support however has always reminded me that they are available when needed for any queries i may have.
I don't feel that the qualification will help me to perform much better as the training is not necessarily related to the company way of working. I am also in the position of running my own store and achieving the company targets that have been set which has now led to me being moved to a new store in order to help them improve.
There are no specific events that are available for teams to participate in outside of work. Teams will try to have social nights out etc but it is hard for the whole team to get involved due to the working hours of different team members. The only company run event it the area Christmas party which happens in November.
Yes
I have worked for the company for 10 years and have got to experience a lot of changes within the company. Due to this I feel like the company treats its staff well and embraces changes and development of its colleagues. There is a strong sense of family within most teams which makes it a pleasure to come to work.
Make sure to be yourself and be open about what you expect from the job role and what you want from it. Take the opportunity to progress when you can as the support to do this is great and it is very rewarding. Embrace change within the company and see the good in things not just the teething issues.
