Throughout the week we had the opportunity to shadow people from all different sectors within the company. Each day this person would show us what they work on day to day and also organised other people from all different levels for us to talk to and ask questions. It was really interesting to talk to people and find out how they got into the business whether it was through the apprenticeship, flying start or graduate programme.
Through the week I gained a lot of knowledge about how the business as a whole runs and what the different areas you can work in do. I learnt a lot about what PwC does and how it interacts with other firms which I would't have had the opportunity to do otherwise.
I really enjoyed my work experience as it gave me an opportunity to look in depth at future career roles and helped me to see the things I would enjoy or not enjoy. However, there were times when we didn't have much to do as the people we were shadowing had a lot of work to do and some of it was too confidential or too difficult for us to help with. Although on the whole it was a great experience and I gained some valuable insights.
Well organised as I always new where to go and what we would be doing as well as who to talk to if I needed anything. However, many of the people we shadowed didn't know what they were meant to do with us and didn't have anything for us to do through some parts of the day so this could probably be improved.
It was a very insightful week for learning about the company and the sector the business is in. I was able to speak with a number of people from every department and they were all very friendly and helpful. I was able to ask loads of questions and I left each day feeling as though I had gained valuable information that would help me to make a decision about what I would like to do in the future.
This week has helped me to decide what I would like to do in the future and I feel as though I am much more confident in the area I would like to work in. Before I had very little knowledge on what the different roles within the business were and I now feel that I have a clear idea of what the roles are and what I enjoy and don't enjoy.
Yes we were paid hourly and travel costs will also be covered. We were fed on Monday and Friday with lunch but Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we were required to bring packed lunch or go out and buy lunch whilst we were here. Depending on where you lived a hotel could be paid for on the Monday and Friday if you had to leave before a certain time in the morning.
Yes we had lots of opportunities to talk to as many people as we want from all different job roles and at all different levels. Many chats were set up for us and if there was anyone else in particular we wanted to speak to they sorted that out for us.
Yes
It has been a greatly beneficial experience for someone who knew they wanted to go into this sector but didn't know what job roles were offered. I would reccomend for someone who wants to know more about a business works and what it is like to be in this environment.
I would advise people to do their best in every aspect of the application as everyone has an equal opportunity and there are a wide range of people with a wide range of backgrounds on the course. Make sure to research the business a bit before hand so you know what you are walking into and so you can explain why you want to come to PwC.
