Shadowing a Higher Apprentice between Tuesday and Thursday. Attending various meetings: meetings that my buddy needed to go to, meetings I arranged myself and meetings my buddy arranged specifically for me. General networking and learning about PwC was, in my opinion, the main objective of the week. It was very informative :)
The extent to which I need to improve my organisational skills was exposed this week. I have realised that I am quite absent-minded and that it is something I must consciously work at to improve. I feel that my communicative skills have been utilised this week, but there are always things one can do to improve them!
I definitely enjoyed my week with PwC. Meeting like-minded people within the first twenty minutes of arriving at Embankment Place made me feel far more comfortable. Similarly, I was very fortunate to have a great buddy who was extremely considerate and caring. I enjoyed learning about the business from an insider's perspective.
The organisation varied throughout the business in my opinion. On Monday when we set up the laptops it took a long time for the group as a whole to complete the set-up. However this was one of the only example of time wasted, and throughout the rest of the week I was able to fit in a vast amount of activities, largely due to my great buddy!
I feel that I was fortunate to be exposed to a holistic experience of PwC, and I think I have a good grasp of the general ethos. I was quite surprised at the relaxed nature of the business, with a large amount of employees working the classic 'nine to five'. I would want to maximise my time when I am young and energised however, and I think I would want to work more hours than what is considered normal at PwC.
Before attending the Business Insight Week I was very undecided as to which career path I want to enter after university. This remains the same, but I am definitely far better informed as to how PwC works. I would definitely consider a career with PwC, but I am also considering options in Law and Academia.
We were paid at £11.28 an hour for 37.5 hours this week, amounting to £423 over the course of the week. Being on a salary of £8.21 in my part-time job, I am very grateful to not only be allowed to experience PwC, but be paid for it as well!
There were definitely a large amount of opportunities to network and meet other employees. I asked my buddy if it would be possible for him to put me in touch with a couple of people from other parts of the business in order to expand my knowledge of PwC, and I had coffee with them; hopefully we will keep in touch!
Yes
The ethos of Pwc is very inclusive and I cannot think of something that would not fit in here. I have various different friendship groups, and I'm certain that each one could easily find their place at PwC. The #colourbrave initiative is a clear example of this and in my opinion is necessary and beneficial in today's political climate.
To be outspoken and confident. Obviously I do not know the ins and out of recruitment, but it seems to me that they want people to join who will make the absolute most of their time here. Those who are more introverted are less likely to arrange to meet people, to network with their peers, or even just to ask questions in order to learn more about PwC.
