The business insight week program gives participants a chance to take a look at PWC in a local office around different departments. Monday - Induction, introduction to different business areas at Bristol office Tuesday - Shadowing assurance/auditing department Wednesday - Shadowing assurance/auditing department Thursday - Shadowing tech department Friday - Closing, student presentations
Gives you a chance to look at what it's like in PWC, options available after studying accountancy, student programs on offer. Interesting to see (as a high school student) what auditing is really like, and gives you the chance to talk to staff in varying levels. Helpful to understand what the business does, and how to get there.
Definitely enjoyable. Student focused, shadowing buddy was very helpful, and it's definitely a program that's designed with the students in mind. Work hours are not too long (often ending at 4), and they pay for transport for the days you need to travel to another office. Culture is great too! Relaxed and casual.
Organised between two branches - Bristol and Cardiff. Very much buddy driven (so dependent on who's helping you), but otherwise for the "student focused" days (Monday and Friday) very structured. One day we spent at tech department which the project we were planning to work on had technical difficulties, but likely due to this being the first time run for them.
Lots - you get to talk to people in different levels and generally feels very relaxed. Modern and spacious offices with cool iPad coffee machines. Dress code is very casual, and the program really does seem to be organised with a view to help students get ahead. Hours (for the real employees) seems reasonable, and from what I hear there isn't too much overtime.
When I applied for this program I was thinking of going down the finance route. Wasn't considering accountancy but this was one of the few programs offering work experience for high school students. Got to speak to the Deals team though, and seems like something I would do in the future.
Yes, pay is roughly 360 per week based on a 37.5 hour work week. They cover travel cost to the regional office, and provide lunch on at least the first and last day. For people travelling from far away, they also provide a hotel but I didn't use that.
Definitely, you are assigned a buddy or a team, who are all really friendly - got to have lunch with the entire tech department in Cardiff, but you also get to ask to see any area that you want and if there're people free they will make time to talk to you and answer your questions.
Yes
Compensation (as a student) is great, things are well organised, staff are helpful and friendly, culture is relaxed, dress isn't too formal, you don't have to work too long hours, get to see interesting and realistic stuff, they try to promote their other student programs so in theory could help you get a foot in the door I imagine.
Apparently competition is intense so try your hardest on all the components! Even though the games on your phone might seem silly, try to get a good score! When it comes to the situational test try to imagine what an ideal office worker would do, and as for the interview process make sure you do research on PWC.
