FIntroduction on day one getting to know the office and our fellow students, some roleplay in different business areas. Three days of shadowing workers in different areas of the business - personally I got to visit Deals, Tech, and Tax. During this we spent some time just asking questions about what kind of work our buddies get up to on a normal day, listening in on client calls, and actually helping out with some of their tasks. Final day delivering presentation and reviewing the week.
The applications process was unlike any I'd previously experienced - made me think more about how i present myself and my experiences. Improved my confidence in both the applications and interviews and meeting and networking with all the Pwc employees i got to meet. Working as part of a team on a project. Got a lot of practice extracting and summarising information as part of some admin tasks.
Everyone I met seemed happy to give me the best possible experience of pwc. Never felt intimidated or isolated, especially when I was with my peers. I looked forward to coming into the office for each day. Enjoyed helping out with work that employees actually used rather than just being another pair of hands in the office.
There was a slight problem when there was no one scheduled for me to shadow but this was fixed in plenty of time and I ended up having a great day with the last minute buddy.
A lot. My perception of an accountancy firm was very different to what I saw during the week. I didn't realise how varied different areas of the business are, let alone how varied every day can be for one worker. The atmosphere was way more casual than I expected, in a good way.
It made me more aware that people from many different backgrounds can do well in the industry, and that there is definitely no set route that delivers individuals to a company like pwc. From talking with employees i realised that they were in the same position i am, and that the most important thing is following the pathway you're most comfortable with.
Yes, the week was paid, and didn't need any expenses for transport or accommodation but I'm aware of others who did receive reimbursement
Yes, we met people in many areas of the business who were happy to share their experiences and contacts if we ever need them in the future.
Yes
It was an insight that you can't get from school or anything else. Being inside a business like pwc even for a short time changed my perception for the better and made me feel more comfortable should i want to apply here
go for it, be yourself, don't hold back or try and be someone you're not
