Experiencing a day in different business/accounting departments. It also included regular employ-ability skill workshops through online methods. The first day consisted of introduction presentation where we were also given our individual laptops. A day in each department could include being present at calls to having to enter data into a spreadsheet for the team.
I learnt to manage my time through software such as calendars. I developed perseverance skills whilst experiencing a day in auditing where I was required to scan and print documents. On the final day, the presentation task helped with presentation techniques from the feedback of other groups within the programme.
I enjoyed having the ability to get a taste of multiple departments and what they have to do daily. Experiencing this with other students made the programme much easier as I was able to socialise and have a much more enjoyable time with others as they were there to support and talk with.
Very well as I was able to visit 3 departments at my time in PWC. The introduction day was very informative and the days were organised well due to 'buddies' giving hangout messages to us students of what was to be complete on a day to day basis and at what times.
I learnt that the workplace can be very professional but also sociable. The flexibility of working is great and employees did not seem time pressured as to what I expected. Being able to rely on others to help with certain tasks was beneficial as it helped others to focus on more important tasks.
Starting this programme, I knew the scope of what I would want my career to lie in. After this programme, I have developed my aspirations as the week as impacted my thoughts on apprenticeship schemes and the benefits in comparison to university degrees which do not offer a salary and the valuable work experience.
Yes, I was paid for my time at PWC. However, it was not the main motivation to complete this programme as the experience was much more valuable as it was career changing. Travelling expenses were not paid for but the hourly salary was sufficient in comparison to the average salary of students my age.
Yes, I met with many employees at PWC who all enjoyed their work with enthusiasm. Everyday I met a new member of employees who all had different information to give me on why they like their job and what they do on a daily basis. The meeting rooms were very useful for this purpose.
Yes
It is a great experience for those who wish to know what it is like in a corporate business that has a variety of clients. The employees at PWC are very friendly and they all have great advice on all aspects of careers. It would be very beneficial for those who do not have a good idea of what accounting is.
Preparations is vital for the application phase where the video interview can be daunting but with preparation it can be easy. Also act with professionalism with employees and do not fall in the trap of acting rude when no one is looking as it can greatly effect your career perspectives.
