I am at university for the duration of the year and then work for PwC during the summer, I have been working in the Assurance sector this summer under Tech Risk and working on a clients operational resilience. It has been very interesting to see the inside workings of a corporate firm and has been interesting to see how everything is taken into account.
I have built on my creative skills alongside teamwork and leadership, by doing a team project and working in a bigger team for a client project. The technical skills have been built on within the placement but even more so at university where I have learnt so much through the course!
I really enjoy it. I was not 100% sure whether I wanted to go to university as I really wanted some industry experience and this degree apprenticeship gives me just that. It gives me enough new content from an education point of view, and also lets me use some of these skills in practice in the workplace.
The leadership team have been really good, ensuring that everything goes to plan and if it doesnt then fixing it immediately and responding quickly with people at the forefront of their mind. They manage us really well and ensure that all of our needs are met. The course and placement are both excellently managed and structured.
Plenty. We are given a business manager, career coach, buddy, resourcing manager to name most of the people, but anyone and everyone is happy to help you no matter how big or small the problem is, everyone is approachable and I feel like I can talk to whoever I need to in a particular circumstance.
The university has a lot of measures in place to support its students, we get a personal tutor, all the lecturers, students union, hall reps and a lot more external contacts. It is really beneficial to have a lot of people you can go to if you need them and the university is good at providing those sources.
The work we do at university is, honestly, at a much deeper level than PwC needs however they are still extremely useful skills to have and a wide knowledge base will get us far. But the content from the course is not usually required for the knowledge needed at PwC.
Yes - there are many events and groups to join, the company do lots of volunteering work and there are also a lot of socials depending on what team you are in. These are really good to network in and build up a reputation in the firm and could potentially get you more work in the future.
Yes
They are a firm full of incredible people that are willing to give you the best experience that they possibly can. They want to make sure you get the most from it and benefit as much as they have from the company. The people are at the heart of this firm and it really shows.
Be completely honest at all times and just be yourself. They want people who are able to communicate well and be able to perform and deliver to a high standard too. Any opportunity you are given, just say yes - you just never know where it might lead or what it might end up being!
