It involved team building exercises. We split into two teams and were told we were playing a game, we then proceeded to try and beat each other to win the game. Once the game was over we were told that all we had to do to win was work together and that way we would both win. We also learned about what e-on does, what they want to see in the future, and the politics of the UK government affect E.ON.E.ON also provided us with a CV and interview skills workshop, at which we learned how to conduct a good interview and then practised it. On the last day we had to do a presentation using skills we had learned through the week.
Team work and how to organise two groups to work together to achieve the overall end goal. We were taught interview skills, e.g. how to present yourself, how to apply life experiences to the interview and what to do to prepare for the interview. We developed our CV skills to make our CVs look more presentable and more attractive to employers.
I really enjoyed the work experience because it showed me what it is like to work in a real world environment. I thought it would be ever boring, just doing desk work but it greatly exceeded my expectations we did lots of tasks in teams involving presenting, drawing, planning and problem solving. Each day we were split into different teams which allowed us to adapt to best use each others strengths.
The work experience was organised really well. It was planned so that every moment of every day was pack with something to do. We guest speakers talk to us, like the CEO and senior members of staff. On day 1 we did some ice breaking tasks to get to know each other better which was essential for the team tasks on the other days. Everyday the tasks were different which meant we were never bored. Each day was set out the same task 1 and 2, a break, task 3, then lunch and task 4. If we ever got stuck or needed help all we had to do was ask and we would receive that help.
We learnt a lot about the sort of people E.ON wants working for them and how it doesn't matter who you are as long as benefit the team you are welcome. I could easily see myself fitting into a culture like that as it seemed to really be focused on the people working there and not just to get the task complete. The office atmosphere was very pleasant with it being casual but also formal enough for a productive atmosphere to be present.
I think the work experience really open my eyes to what the world of work is like and how the energy industry is ever changing. It has definitely had an impact on my career path as I will definitely consider working in the energy industry and for E.ON. It certainly guided me to consider working for E-on over other companies because the office culture is one a admire enough to want to work in.
I was not paid for being at the work experience however if I came in on the bus or got someone to drive me there everyday I could get those costs covered so I would not have to pay anything myself. Meals every provided free for the entire week, we received breakfast and lunch.
There were plenty of opportunities for me to apply for a degree apprenticeship when I get to the right age. I was also offered with something to put on my CV which I can use in the future to get a job a E.ON or in another industry completely. We got the chance to talk to employees from all sectors of the business. e.g. payment and billing, politics, HR and decision making.
Yes
I just thought the professionalism of company culture was something to be admired. And the energy industry was not going anywhere for a very long time so it is a great place to get a stable job. E.ON is also a forward thinking establishment because they understand that global warming is a problem and so are leading the way making all electricity generated for UK homes comes from sustainable sources.
Do it, definitely do it. You learn so much that can be applied to where ever you want to find employment. The application process was relatively painless and easy to do the only difficult thing was the CV, because I had to make one from scratch. The experience was amazing it will benefit me in ways that will only become apparent when I have use for those skills or the information.
