My role as an apprentice is to support technicians is general maintenance of all equipment on my work section. Day to Day i maintain the baggage systems, responding to faults, maintaining conveyors, x-ray machines, and all other systems within south terminal baggage hall. Also to learn from technicians.
As I'm in the fourth and final year of my apprenticeship i have learned a lot. ive worked on complex x-ray machines, security systems, airfield lighting and loading bridges, baggage systems, huge generators, pumps, motors. and i have developed all new skills in these areas.
i really really enjoy the programme. i don't think there are any other apprenticeships i'm aware of that have such a variety of places and equipment that you all get a chance to work on and learn from
The programme is very well organised and structured and inclusive for all years and all apprentices.
Any training or any support or any help my employer assists in all matters. they are very accommodating and very supporting.
The college is very good
it gives me a much better theory understanding of electrical and electronic systems that can help me at work
Gatwick will always go to careers events and has sponsored the Big Bang event for the last 2 years which all apprentices happily volunteer to go and help at. and we do many other events through the year too
Yes
Because its a great place to work, with great people and a great place for learning. it will make you understand equipment you never thought you might have ever worked on. its a really great job.
Don't think you have to be super smart or have any experience in engineering. if you have a strong will to learn and work hard thats all you need.
