It was great , I got to a feel of each department and learnt something new each day. I was shadowing members of staff , gift wrapping purchases , finding products for customers orders, bubble wrapping purchases, replenishing stock, wasting stock through the till and occasionally doing till transactions with permission to use a co-workers card.
I learnt how to waste damaged products through the till (in the Christmas department ) , how to use the till and how to look up a the stock of a product in the store or other F&M stores. I learnt how to apply skincare and make up to a customers face (in the beauty department) and how to mix n match foundation.
Yes I did enjoy my work experience as it was my first time being on the shop floor and it gave me a feel of the different clientele and learn about the variety of the products. Also everyone was very nice and supportive towards me and always asked if I was ok.
It was quite well organised as I got told the uniform code , my lunch was sorted out everyday and I got my travel reimbursed on the last day so I didn’t have to wait another week or so. But as to productivity wise I wasn’t sure what I was meant to do each day.
I learn very much information and history about F&M and each floor has a different feeling. I spoke to a lot of people about working there and said a lot of positive things. I was considering about working as a Christmas temp there.
I helped decided a lot that if I did want a job as a sales associate I would only do it as a temp because it’s long hours on the shop floor.
Yes I was reimbursed for my travel money and my lunch was paid for everyday.
Yes I met a lot of nice people from different backgrounds. I was very nice meeting people on the first floor (Christmas department) because they were young and bubbly and was easier to speak to. I kept in contact with 2 of them and the manager by emailing for other opportunities but haven’t heard anything back.
Yes
It’s a good experience to get a feel of the rich and luxury side of retail. There is so much to learn and everyone is so different.
To be very professional look wise and speech wise. Make sure to speak and get to know customers and your co-workers as it will make your time there easier.
