I was given an amazing opportunity to explore the different departments around the store and experience the working atmosphere with staff members who had exceptional customer service skills. I gained great insight into individual views on time management, work ethics and leadership skills. I had the opportunity to interview and ask open questions to staff.

I learnt the importance of listening skills and engaging in a patient and calm manner. My product knowledge and history has increased due to the time spent with different individual members of staff who were highly experienced. My overall experience gave me an extremely positive outlook into the retail sector and gave me confidence to engage with members of the public.

I thoroughly enjoyed my work experience and and extremely grateful to have been given such an amazing opportunity that most young people my age may not. Although it was a brief insight into the working day, I could strongly say that luxury retail is something I could see myself doing in the future.

All aspects of my work experience, from emails to spending quality time with the staff, had been very well organised and I felt at ease and very much part of the team. Each member of staff ensured that I got to experience different aspects of the store and I would like to further add that there was a seriousness to it, due to the fact it was a normal working day, but there was a very light hearted approach to make me feel at ease and welcome.

As previously mentioned, each member of staff gave me an insight into the impressive history of the store and the association of the Royal Warrant. I am very fortunate that my father has previously worked at Fortnum’s and my mother works there currently, so this has an positive impact into my future thoughts. I would very much like to think that I may have the opportunity to be part of the Fortnum's family in the future.

At this stage, my thoughts are very much for working in luxury retail. After having this positive experience, I would be very happy to work within the shop floor and possibly work my way up. The insight I had was a great eye opener to see people of all different levels of experience bonding and respecting each other.

This was not a paid experience, but my travel fair was reimbursed. I hope to go back in the future and complete an internship to broaden my knowledge. I was fortunate that both my school and Fortnum’s agreed to this work experience as it was only for the one day experience.

Yes, for the whole day I worked with many amazing staff members in different departments who shared with me their views, thoughts and knowledge as to why they enjoy their work and tasks. I interviewed many employees which was a really fun aspect to my day and was given feedback from staff of different abilities, mindset and skill.

Absolutely! Fortnum and Mason is an institute which carries great heritage, it is world famous not just for its teas but for its unique, authentic style and class which is showcases a very traditional British approach. The beautiful thing is the diversity within the store, people from different backgrounds and cultures have happily embraced the traditional Fortnum and Mason school of thought.

Know the history and heritage behind what will become your future. However I am confident that during the training period, the outstanding insight into everyday operations, whilst meeting other individuals, will only help to give you the confidence to take of the challenge. My belief is that the Fortnum’s team will welcome you into a claim and relaxed environment.
