Member of the Core Assurance Team whereby I would complete audit work for the variety of clients PwC has. This work varied day to day dependant on the client I was working on, for example financial services clients work required varies massively to the work required on a manufacturing client.
I have learnt a plethora of new skills whilst on this placement, from time management to how to interact with client. I have also learnt a lot of technical knowledge over how to approach the work carried out on a day to day basis. My excel skills have also drastically improved.
I enjoyed this placement very much. All of the people I worked with treated me with respect and like a true member of the team. The work was also stimulating and interesting and there was a whole host of social events that I was able to take part in and make myself known around the office.
My course is very well organised as it allows the training of useful skills and technical knowledge before the placement begins so that I had a good foundation upon which to build PwC specific knowledge. This has allowed for a well rounded approach to my degree learning and working skills.
While I have not required much support from my employer, I have access to multiple resources for a whole host of different reasons should I require this support. It is all very accessible and its use promoted, when necessary, by management in the office which I find to be very positive.
The university provides me with ample support. Again, I have not required this throughout my placement, but I take comfort in the fact that I know should I require their help that they are their and are a separate entity from the firm which my placement is with. My course director is also very helpful.
The degree teaches me a lot of useful accounting specific knowledge that I am able to apply to the job I carry out day to day during my placement. Obviously I am not familiar with all I see each day on placement, but I am given a foundation to build on through my university studies.
There is a plethora of extra curricular activities on offer at the company I am completing my placement at. I have attended numerous social events such as the Christmas Party and welcome drinks. There was also plenty of opportunity to take part in sports teams. Unfortunately I am injured at the moment but the sportsman culture is something I am a fan of.
Yes
It is a very interesting job filled with a vast array of different characters that make the day to day life, which many assume to be boring, very interesting and fun. It is also a great employer in regards to extra curricular opportunities available to staff that help promote a healthy work life balance.
Make sure you are fully aware of what specific department you are getting involved in as the work varies massively. Also, be prepared to work longer hours during certain periods of the year - but be aware that your hard work will always be noticed by and rewarded by those in management positions.
