As an Apprentice Project Manager, I manage and deliver various packages of work on behalf of our client; Highways England. This involves constant stakeholder management and communication, putting people to work on the Highways and managing, controlling and reporting on finances.
I've developed existing and developed new skills. I'm able to confidently meet new people and speak infront of crowds. I'm able to manage projects and work under pressure and also identify my own strengths and weaknesses.
Overall, I've enjoyed it. Learnt a lot from those around me and received great support from those around me. However, key people around me have left and the support has become limited. I'm able to complete tasks with minimal support but still require guidance.
The course side of the apprenticeship was great, QA did a great job with breaking down block weeks and course requirements. My in work tasks were as they come, projects environments can cause difficulties due to complex tasks and deadlines, especially as a project manager who also delivers.
I receive great support, if I need help in regards to project deliverables I get that help.
QA had been great with support. Constantly checking up with me and providing me with extra course materials to keep learning and developing.
As I also have a role in delivery, it can be difficult to apply my qualification but the opportunity does arise every now and again.
I'm fortunate to have expressed my interest in this and have been allowed to attend multiple events where I can network, present and learn.

They have a lot of experienced and intelligent individuals who you can really learn from. For the most part it's a positive and if you look to get as much as you can from the role you'll learn a lot.
As an apprentice, it's important to show your desire to learn and get stuck in. Be enthusiastic and make relationships, it can be daunting but if you show you have a good work ethic the results will come. Develop yourself to develop others.
