My role as an apprentice at Siemens, it is my role to complete the tasks given in each placement, whilst gaining more skills and knowledge on the gas turbines and how they are manufactured. During this placement my day to day role varies as I’m currently in the plant department, so this can change from finding and solving problems which broken machinery too stripping them all down to scrap.
During my apprenticeship I have gained lots of skills also I have improved on my skills. During my time at college I gained some basic fitting and machining skills. However since being on site these have improved massively. I have even gained some knowledge and skills that I never knew about, until I was training on certain jobs.
I enjoy this programme to a great extent. I like how we change placements every 3-4 months so we know what we enjoy to do. I also enjoy the tasks that are set as I get to learn new skills everyday. I also enjoy that you get too try out different jobs.
I think that this programme is very well structured. I like the way it gets you introduced into the industry also I like how the NVQs are set out and how they are structured so I get to learn new skills and do different tasks in different placements. I think that this program could improve by making the NVQ more up to date and with more relevant information on the tasks that take place at this site.
I receive plenty of support from my employer. We have meetings throughout the NVQ so they can help you if you need it throughout it. If you need support they will happily give you all the support you need. They also support you with any personal problems that you need some support with.
When working towards my qualifications I get lots of support from my provider. If I need extra help they will get me some extra help. If I need some more time they will try to get me some more time to complete my qualifications in. Also they are willing to help me be able to pass them.
I feel that my qualification will help me preform better in my role, this is because I get better understanding of the jobs when I have to then write them up. Also it gets me looking into the jobs in more depth when I’m looking to get my evidence for my NVQ.
Unfortunately at my workplace that don’t hold that many activities. However we do get a Christmas meal and we are able to help in charity events, apart from that their is no other extra curricular that anyone can do. But we sometimes organise a few social activities that we can all do.
Yes
I would recommend a friend to Siemens as the training you get is very good. Also the working environment is very good, your not pressured into doing anything also you get to learn constantly. The people give the workplace an even better environment as they are able to have a laugh with you.
I would give the advice that you should try your hardest to get into the company and then keep trying your hardest while your here. How ever if you do not get into the company I would tell you to keep trying untill you succeed otherwise you’ll regret it.
