As a technician in training, Day to day I am involved with the general maintenance of the plant. This means that if there are any breakdowns then it is up to us to investigate and resctify the issue. However as an apprentice we move around to different locations on site and this allows us to get invovled with the planning and production side of things as helping to implement projects. This invovles things such as commissioning he new plant that we have on site.
All of the skills that I currently have in regards to my indiviual job role I have, I have learnt. This includes drilling, filing, spanner work and all of the knowledge I now have about the site as a whole as well as the company. As well as this my personal skills have developed and these have been closely monitored. Such as my time management, my interpersonal skills as well as my confidence at work.
I thouroughly enjoy my apprenticeship and this is because everyone I work with is very willing to help you and pass on their knowledge to you. Everyone that you come accross at work is supportive amd wants to help you do your best. As well as this the moral and comradery on sight makes it a pleasant place to work.
The structure to my apprenticeship is outstanding. We have a set placement timetable that is visible to us from day one so we can make contacct and interact with the appropriate people, this helps us progress throughout our apprenticeship as it allows us to arrange our own meetings. However we can always have the help from our manager.
I believe we receive the pefrect amount of support from out emplyoer as they are there for us if there are any questions or difficulties and they understand tha each apprentice has different requirements, therefor the can adapt our placement plan. As well as this all the managers and more experience people are supportive of you and your college work and are repared to move work about in order for you to witness and practise on a wider variety of jobs.
I receive some amoun of support from the training provider. There are some college tutors that work so hard for us to ensure all our work is marked in time and that we are stretched enough in our work. However there has been a lack of orgainsation and this has been a major downfall.
I feel that my NVQ helps with my role as a qualification as it forces me to get to know and investigate, in depth a lot of different aspects of the job. And these are all done in different areas of site by different departments therefor it allows me to meeting new people and broaden my spectrum of knowledge.
There are quite a few fundraising events that take place throughout the year for things such as macmillan that I have got invovled in as well as the connecting communities. As well as this I help out at the recruitment event that the company goes to to spread information about the apprenticeships.
Yes
As you get a full employment contract from day one and this means you are a valued employee. As well as this you get all the coaching and support you need from everyone on site as well as a job that is enjoyable. The jobs you do as an apprentice as very varied and this meansno two days are ever the same
Some tips or advice would be make sure you tailor your CV for the job that you are applying for. And prepare for the interview well. Make sure you know as much about the company as possibe and make sure you know yourself. And prapre answers to the interview before you get to it.
