  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently I am learning different aspects of being a administrator/recruiter. I write adverts and post them out across various job boards, maintain company databases, arrange interviews with candidates and add/update candidate information to our system. I am required to help out other colleagues with their work as and when needed.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've learnt how to use the databases the company uses to do my role well, alongside develop my creative writing skills when I write any new adverts and my typing speed improves daily due to constant use of the computer which is great. Furthermore, it's aided with my ability to work under pressure and multitask.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • So far I am enjoying the programme, it has mostly been just settling into the company and settling into my team (Recruitment), who have been very welcoming, getting to grips with all the daily processes that are required and all the information you need to remember to be effective as a Business Admin Apprentice. No work place is perfect but as of yet, I'm enjoying being here.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I'm not massively sure on how to answer this question, simply because I'm not sure of the answer. From what I have witnessed so far in the past few months, there seems to be a fairly decent structure set in place - I've had support with settling in and with learning certain things... But I don't know the full picture regarding when I start my apprenticeship work yet, so I have that uncertainty.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Since I have started I have had a fair amount of support - I've had a lot of support from my line manager and the colleagues within my specific team, whenever I've had a problem or an issue, management have been quick to respond and help me deal with it. It's nice to know I have people I can turn to if I need it in the future.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Currently I am not sure of this as I am at the stage in my apprenticeship where I've only recently started and I'm still waiting for my apprenticeship work to kick in/find out specifically what I need to do regarding my apprenticeship qualification and all the work I need to do!

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe that gaining this qualification will mean that I have the relevant knowledge in this business area to do well now and into the future, as well as putting me in a position to pursue a role in the same sector if I wish it after my apprenticeship has concluded. It allows me to learn the processes required within a corporate environment.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At the moment, I have been included in social events outside of work (E.g Going for a Christmas meal with the office), as well as having lunch meetings outside of the office with my team. Furthermore, I have already been on a social activity/team building exercise with my team after work which has helped me get to know them better but also learn to work together with them.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Kier Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Out of the companies I have worked for so far, this company has had the best management and support offered to me, the nicest working environment and plenty of friendly people who are happy to help support you in a time of need. It's also evident that the company wants to do it's best for it's colleagues even if they've faced some hardship over the past year or so.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Kier Group?
  • The advice I would give would be to apply for the roles you think you are qualified to/capable to do well at, ensure you have a clear and well presented CV... And if you get invited in for an interview - just be yourself and speak confidently. The application progress from first applying to be offered the role took around a month and a half as it involved some delays to the normal procedure (manager needed was off work for a week) an initial phone call, then a telephone interview, then coming in for an interview etc.
