Within my role, I am tasked within organising the instalment of Mains Water, Gas & Electricity within housing developments. this includes the tendering and procurement of sub contractors who are tasked to do these works. I am also tasked with managing the budgets of the project and aiming to make profits for the company.
I have learnt how to become more skilled with using a computer and computer programmes such as Excel, word, and projects. I have developed my one to one communication skills with clients and contractors. I have learned about managing my time to perform my daily tasks and performing presentations to my peers.
I enjoy my programme as it allows me to be office based and also site based. I get to experience both sides of the role and communicate with all parties involved in the project. I am also allowed to be flexible with the programme as there are targets to meet which can be done at work or home.
the programme is very well structured in such terms that all the block classes are given at the start of the course. this allows appropriate planning in advance of attending. The programme also provides further training from site visits from the appointed lecturer. this allows one to one time to try and complete parts of the course.
my employers provides ample support to complete this programme. I am consulted about how much time I require weekly to help me with completing my course. I am also reviewed to make sure I am on course and not struggling with the programme. training and mentors are also provided to help me in my role.
the training provider provides support in 3 aspects: 1 - classroom training and running through all tasks within the course. 2 - one to one office based meeting where the lecturer will visit my work and we will look to complete online based parts of the course. 3 - phone calls also take place to allow the lecturer a quick chat to make sure the apprentice is coping with any demands and also ask any questions.
my qualification has helped me perform better in my role by allowing me to apply items learned in the classroom and place this onto real working life. I have learned how to deal with negotiation, confrontation and also how to make myself an important wheel within the overall project lifecycle.
within my company, employees are encouraged in many different social activities, this can range from a cycle to work scheme where the company helps employees into a healthier lifestyle. there are also regular be the difference days where parts of the business will get together and help local charities with works that may need help with.
Yes
SSE has many different routes within the business that appeal to everyone. There is never a time where I have felt stagnant or in important within the company. there are also lots of benefits for employees such as share schemes or the employee benefit programme that can help with things such as child care. agile working is also a big factor in my role and this allows me to suit my work around my home life.
be prepared for the interview, try and think what questions will be asked and practise the answers. remain confident and be yourself. have answers that show your personality and how you would be a great addition to the company. show an eagerness and willingness to progress yourself within the business.
