on a day to day basis my role allows me to provide excellent support to the Royal Air Forces Typhoon fleet within the Tytan programme. The support varies from component control and bay maintenance planning, Data management control, and problem resolving issues within the Typhoon fleet.
I originally came from the Aircraft Maintenance Academy as an aircraft mechanic. My transaction from hands on maintenance to the support side was difficult. I had to quickly develop my knowledge and learn new skills to achieve my goals in providing logical and professional resolutions and support to the Typhoon fleet. Overall it is a huge learning experience, and for that I think this was very good
I have found a few moments in my apprenticeship very difficult, however overall I have thoroughly enjoyed most of it. I have been disappointed a few times by how much I can provide from a support perspective, however the scheme I am on is very early days.
I believe the aircraft maintenance programme is very well structured, minor changes could be made to improve however overall it is excellent. The Part-M programme is very unstructured, this is understandable as it is very early on, however a lot of planning could have been done previously to organise this better.
My employer offer a whole range of support services, this includes services for mental health and occupational health. I believe the wider company support to aircraft maintenance apprentices from the Aircraft Maintenance Academy is poor. This could easily be improved. The company do not seem to recognise apprentices in our environment and more focus is spent of apprentices in more well known sites such as Brough and Warton. Support from the Academy to the apprentices is great.
I receive a good amount of support from my training providers upon request for my qualifications. My assessor is very helpful
I personally think my qualification will be good for future reference when it comes to applying for new roles in support sections of the business, however at the moment I believe the qualification is not entirely line up in with my everyday work. My qualification allows me to gain knowledge for the environment I am working within.
There are many activities that I can be involved with. This includes football, tennis, rugby and squash. These events tend to be run by individuals in the work area.
Yes
I would recommend BAE Systems to a friend because it provides amazing opportunities for the future. It also provides great qualifications and careers.
I would advise applicants to be themselves, to be bold. I would advise anyone to follow the company's three big principles which are to be Trusted, Innovative, and Bold.
