My roles have varied throughout four different placements. Everyday and role is very different learning new skills and touching different competencies. I have been held accountable for a number of projects during my apprenticeship and I feel this responsibility really supports personal growth.
I have definitely learnt new skills and developed exiting ones during my apprenticeship. I have been supported by my manager to take responsibility for many tasks and this has helped improve my confidence massively. It has also enabled me to improve my presentation and professionalism skills. Additionally during my off the job training we have been offered various sessions to help improve our specific skills such as IT skills, which has helped in my placement.
I have really enjoyed the programme so far and working at BAE Systems. The working environment has been really welcoming and friendly, which has made it very easy to settle in. I have been placed in great collaborative teams who have been always willing to help and offer support. My skills coach in early careers has also been very helpful and offer as much support as we need.
The programme was structured well starting with a 2 week induction and then attending off the job training twice a month. Which was altered due to the pandemic to virtual lessons. I have had the opportunity through my apprenticeship to experience 5 placements with the opportunity for one out of function placement. This has given me a good opportunity to find what I enjoy, improve skills in areas I felt weaker in and get a greater understanding of my function.
My team have been great and pushed me to do my best. My managers have been very supportive and always happy to help. I have be allocated good time to complete my assignments and support extra activities which goes towards my overall development. I have also had good support from the early careers team who have been very approachable.
I have been provided with training days and additional support from required. As I work towards my end point assessment mock exams and 1-1's have been great in preparation.
The skills, knowledge and behaviours learnt through off the job training days and my assignments have helped broaden my business knowledge and supported my roles.
There is usually plenty of extra-curricular activities to get involved with, some of my personal examples include becoming a peer support network ambassador, standing manning at exhibitions, networking opportunities, supporting early career open events and outward bound.
Yes
I have had a really positive experience during my apprenticeship, as a employee I feel valued by the way we are looked after. There are plenty of opportunities to further your career or try new roles in the future.
I would recommend to do your research on the company, prepare some answers for examples of and be yourself in the interview.
