Project Control based role within the first few years of the scheme, I monitor spend against the budget of projects within contracts. The role means that I engage with many stakeholders that I record costs for which I enjoy and also i then present these costs to the Project Manager.
I have learnt lots of new skills since starting at BAE, from building my presenting skills and working on my communication skills from talking to the many stakeholders I come across. To my Excel skills that are built from working on a day to day basis on excel. I feel as though i always have the opportunity to build my skills and develop new ones.
I enjoy working with a variety of people from all over the country and in different parts of the world. it gives me the opportunity to develop skills and learn more about how other people work. Also I love the range of opportunities on the scheme and feel as though I am constantly supported in my development.
The scheme itself is really well organised and structured, we have regular meetings with line managers and people from our apprenticeship to ensure we are supported and are progressing well. I feel like the one to one support from our scheme is something that separates it from most other schemes.
I receive lots of support from my employer, from 12 week reviews to see how I am progressing within my placement to multiple 1 to 1 sessions with my placement manager to see how he can support my development and see how I want to progress. Also I am supporting in college work well.
My training provider is supportive in me working towards my qualifications and they give me sufficient time to complete my college work. Also if I was struggling with the work I could go and speak to my line manager and I am confident they would give extra support if required happily.
I do, I feel as though due to the fact i am working on my qualification alongside my role means that I can apply aspects of both in each. This means that I have more to talk about in my degree assignments and also feel as though I am more confident in decisions at work.
Lots, it purely depends on how much you want to get involved in from social events within the scheme or within your placement teams apprentices are always welcome. But also in terms of sporting events there are regular opportunities to take part, and also organise new ones if there currently is none in your sporting area.
Yes
This is because I feel as though they are a great place to work, with great benefits, supportive schemes and great opportunities for career progression that many companies don't offer. Especially for school and university leavers the Apprenticeship schemes and graduate schemes are better any other in their respective area.
My advice for someone applying to BAE systems is just to apply! Even though there are thousands of people that apply for BAE each year and for example in my scheme limited places for the number of applicants, someone has to get the job so you might as well apply to see if you can get on.
