Role includes at this point in time, attending college at IPS International. At this college we are enrolled on a NVQ and BTEC course which cater to our job role. We study NVQ 4 days a week and BTEC once a week. Here we learn the practical and mental skills on how to become an electrical engineer
I have learnt how to solder, read circuit, schematic and block diagrams of circuits. I have also learnt how to create circuit, schematic and block diagrams of circuits. I have learnt practical bench skills along with working to set deadlines. I have learnt how to calculate values to understand how circuits work. I have also learnt health and safety and why it is key to safe working practices. I have also learnt how to identify faults on circuits and how to fix them.
I enjoy my course fully. This is one of the best courses i have been on to where you are practically envolved with learning and tutored to a standard where you will gain 1 on 1 guidance if you do not understand fully and be focused on to assist you in your learning if it is needed.
The programme is well organised with a structured day to day basis of college for NVQ with structured times we need to be in when our breaks are and when we leave. With btec days we are timetabled to certain lessons with room numbers to ensure we go to the correct place on that day and time.
We recieve good amounts of support from the employer if we need to ask something we can contact by email or talk to them at a drop is session. This communication is key to understanding where we are at with our course and how well we are doing within the course.
The support from the trainers is key to our learning. Without this level of support we would not be able to complete this course as they fully focus on ensuring we understand what we are learning before progressing. The support also is there for the btec which communication is done through moodle or email.
The training has let me learn new skills that best suit my job role, with these skills i will be able to better complete tasks i am set at work. With the skills i have been taught practical and mental i will be able to apply these to perform my job better at work
We have been set to take an activity weekend to help with teambuilding skills over the easter period called Bowles, this consists of activities that are team based, exploring and social meetings to better our interpersonal skills within our group of apprentices at work. We have regular team meetings also to discuss our progress and how we can better our performances at work.
Yes
It is a good apprenticeship with outstanding managers to monitor your progress. They are very reliable to sort any issues you may have and the targets our set on a 3 monthly basis meaning you get regular updates on your performance. The pay is average for an apprentice and you learn so many new skills within the business
I would highly reccommend the course as its a very interesting career path. Advice i would give to anyone applying to BAE is go in with an open mindset, the learning side of the business may be a bit difficult at times but once you get the hang of it you will understand better and be able to complete work to a better standard
