  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in Project Management, and my day to day basis revolves around meeting and talking to new people. I update trackers, hold meetings, and contact people regarding different contracts. I am doing extra curricular activities with the support of my company that gives me change to travel, get involved in schools and start and complete personal projects

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills such as Excel and outlook. More importantly this role has expanded on my already set skills and behaviours. My confidence, organisation and self esteem has boosted throughout this process due to the trust, responsibility and difference I am making - even as an apprentice. I am enthusiastic to see what skills I will pick up in the future.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme a lot. It is something I didn't know I wanted to do until I got involved in it. The programme is very supportive and organises a lot of training/personal enhancement which is great from an employer. The people on the scheme are also very close

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the programme is fairly well structured, with 1 year placements over 5 years, and a day a week at a local University. It is good that we get this mix, and they coordinate reviews, meetings and training to make it convenient for us, our line managers and our placement as a whole

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support form my employer, through personal, educational and career progression. I think it is a great company to work for in terms of support, as the network I work in are very accessible and easy to talk to - and very supportive in everything which has made a massive difference in the placement

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a fair bit of support, in exams, assignments and personal problems. They are always contactable and usually reply with very constructive answers. They are happy to put a 1:1 meeting in - which is very helpful. They give resources above and beyond and there is the library and suggested resources to use

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Some aspects are helpful that I learn, however I can not always see how they apply to my placement. However I'm sure I will use them in the future/always good to know. It has made me work better with people and see different ways of executing tasks, which I have used in my role

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many activities we can get involved in. Some are optional and some are mandatory. things like STEM ambassador is highly recommended - helping to promote STEM in different ways. Outward bound and Princes trust is also highly recommended. The scheme tries to get us involved with as much or as little as we want to build up our profile

  • 9a. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • With the accumulation of the salary, support and opportunities I have recommended this to friends, as they cover a wide range of careers also. The merge of education and workplace is great - especially for those that want the hands on experience but also want to get a qualification - in case the role doesn't work out

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • I would say to really sell yourself on your application. Don't lie because they will catch you out. remember they are seeing pieces of paper with words, not you in the flesh so you need to portray yourself as well as possible. Another tip is to make sure you put everything on there you can - even if it is something you don't think is relevant. Many things can be linked to competencies such as leadership and teamwork and it is always good to give an example.
