Rotational - So a whole range of things. Placements are usually 6 months long and you could be working in anything e.g. buses, dial-a-ride, cable cars to office work like consulting, transformations, press office etc. You meet people from all over the business and get the opportunity to experience a variety of roles.
I have developed a variety of leadership skills through mentoring and training. I have also improved presentation skills through training and practice. In addition, my confidence has grown and I am able to work with a variety of people that I may not have been previously able to because of this.
I really enjoy the programme, I have no regrets in joining the scheme, and believe I have made the right choice in doing so.
First 2 years are very structured in terms of placements, whereas years 3 and 4 you are given more freedom in what area of the business you would like to work in.
Lots of support. There are regular meetings to check up on progress and to see if you are managing work and university work.
It is our responsibility mainly to request internal training to develop skills we feel we need to, however there are specific schemes that are recommended we do, and with London Underground Placements, we are given extensive training to ensure we do the job well.
At this time, I don't see a lot of overlap in what I learn at University in comparison to what I learn at work, however I feel these will be more obvious in the coming future
TfL encourage you to be a part of various committees and attend various networking events, however in terms of sports or hobbies, I am yet to see any opportunities.
Yes
The scheme allows you to gain a wide range of experience around the company, as well as obtain a fully paid for qualification and a charter ship.
Research the company, and be yourself in the interview. TfL like to see personality, and enthusiasm. Channel your nervousness into excitement
