Initially when I started I worked within the Infra analyst team; this involved working on service requests daily. The team also deal with incidents such as profile issue, slow performance on devices and when an application needs to be added to the account. Service requests include name changes, creating mailboxes, giving access to mailboxes and shared drives.
I have improved my skills over the past 16 month I have been year as I dealt with customers daily; I improved my communication skills as I was using the phone more often compared to my previous job. I interacted with the team more often when I needed help with something or when it was working on a project and this has has improved my teamwork skills
I enjoyed going to firebrand and learning about the different things as it was a good environment to learn. Overall I would say I've enjoyed the programme slightly and i think it would be better if there was more interaction and possibly going to college to learn once a week compared to visiting the training centre 4 times a year.
I would say the programme is fairly structured, I started working at TFL in September and the apprenticeship was setup in October. The apprenticeship side courses were changed so we ended up doing 3 courses in 3 months but that was due to it being changed to a longer course
My employer has supported me during this apprenticeship whether its getting access to pluralsight for revision or covering the train tickets when I had to go to some of the courses located out of London. They have also given me a day to work each week to work on my coursework.
My training provider has been really helpful throughout this apprenticeship whether it was at the training centre or in the office. They have provided materials one month before the training to prepare and I receive constructive feedback from my tutor when it comes to coursework. They offer support if I need it.
It has helped to an extent but i feel it would've been better to have training over a longer period of time or attending college 1 day a week and spreading the curriculum over that period instead of having the training courses just 4 times throughout the year. This would ensure that the knowledge is retained better.
All Graduates and Apprentices are part of the Graduate and Apprentice Committee and every month we are invited to a talk. There are also site visits that take place every now and then; for example, visiting a depot, or visiting a disused tunnel. This enables apprentices and graduates to meet others whilst learning about a different part of the company.
Yes
I would recommend Transport for London to a friend as it is a great place to start your career. There are great benefits such as 29/30 days annual leave aswell as free travel on the network and many other benefits. There are many different types of roles available within this organisation which would enable you to move onto to something else if you don't find a particular thing interesting.
When applying for Transport for London my best tip would be to be yourself in all of the interviews. Learn about the job requirements of the job. Be able to work in a team and communicate as there is a group exercise on the interview date. Prepare your best for the interview which is around 30 minutes.
