I am an apprentice fitter and on a day to day basis I will use a multitude of tools to complete jobs such as drilling panels, rivet and fasten components to the sub assembly's. I will work on major units or sub assemblies depending on where I am working and I will complete paperwork.
I have learnt many new skills throughout my time in the business such as reading technical information and engineering drawings. I have leant to use rivet guns and different types of fasteners including jsf bolts and eddy bolts. I have leant to drill different materials such as carbon fibre and titanium.
I enjoy the work that I do on a day to day basis and I like working in the business because I learn new techniques that I didn't in the training centre . I also like all of the people I work with and I have learnt a lot in the business.
most of the structure of the programme is well ran such as the assessors and trainers who make sure we are on track with all of our nvq work, but some problems have arose around the length of the programme due to the company's mistake we have to do an extra 6 months that wasn't in the contracts.
I have received a lot of support from my employer they will help if I have any issues and they are respectful to us. we have good systems in place around our mental and physical well being. they are also very good with giving holidays and allowing overtime if needed.
I have received allot of help towards my nvq qualifications and they have created work pack templates that are easy to use. they also make sure we can do the correct jobs in the business to hit certain criteria. we also have regular meetings with our assessors who make sure we are all up to date.
I feel like the qualifications that I will receive will help me in my future job role as a fitter because all of the collage work helps towards the theoretic parts of the job and the fitting that I do In my placements helps me learn and improve my skills ready for when I start in the business.
I am the vice chair of the local apprentice council where I help run and set up advents for the whole of the schemes such a strips and charity advents. I have also helped on the outward-bound as a mentor where I helped the new apprentices in there week away with the program.
Yes
I would recommend this program because the company looks after you well and you will always respected. you also come out of the program with great qualifications and there is opportunity's to always do more. the pay is also very good for an apprenticeship and there are many perks such as shares.
I would give the advice of making sure you always respect your trainers and assessors and they will respect you. you should also make sure you listen to everything that is said because they will teach you so much. I would also say that making sure you keep on time with all your deadlines is important because if you get behind it is hard to catch up.
