On a day to day basis I go to my slot that has my aircraft in it and complete jobs that needs to be done on that aircraft, these jobs are assigned to me by my supervisor. The jobs could range from simply testing systems to replacing generators and components.
I have learnt many new skills and developed my already existing skills greatly in the short time I have been at my placement RAF base and am still progressing and learning new things every day. Due to never doing anything like this before almost everything is new to me here.
I absolutely enjoy working here with BAE systems as it has given me lots of opportunities and skills I otherwise would of never of had. I have also been able to earn a great wage for my age and been able to move away from home to experience living elsewhere.
The organisation of my programme with BAE systems is really hit and miss as sometimes organisation will be spot on with no problems however at other times it can be shabby and quite unorganised, which leaves us apprentices confused as to what is going on sometimes and can be quite frustrating.
Support from BAE systems is usually spot on with no problems, and whenever we need to speak to someone it is always clear on who we need to speak to. Also they have arranged people to come in to talk to us about their experiences regarding sensitive matters such as suicide and mental health, which can be very useful. However there is times when it is not clear and we may end up getting passed around to different people to find an answer, this usually comes down to miscommunication between employees.
we receive lots of support for our NVQ qualifications. Whenever help is required our assessor is always on hand via learning assistant or email to help in any way possible, also we have frequent meetings to discuss our NVQ and how its going and also talk about what we need to do to complete it.
The qualification helps a little bit for me to perform better in my role as it allows me to understand the basics of aeronautical engineering but most of the most important skills I have acquired is through my placement experience because I'm actually doing jobs rather than theory.
Yeah there are extra curricular activities that we could get involved with if we wanted to., things like soap box rallies, sports such as rugby and football happen all the time. these different activities are usually advertised to us through the use of either emails or just posters in the break room.
Yes
I would definitely recommend BAE systems to a friend as it is a great place to work with lots a brilliant opportunities and different career paths you can take within the company. And to top that off the pay is good too especially as a young apprentice like me who only just left school.
If I were to give other people any advice in joining bae systems I would say to just be honest and be yourself as I feel like those qualities are recognised within BAE. Also id say make sure you are able to cooperate easily with other people as team work is also another important thing within BAE systems.
