As a HR apprentice I sit on the early careers team. This team manages the graduate, apprentice and education outreach pathways. My responsibilities so far have included coordinating attendance at careers fairs, organising assessment centres, updating the Future Talent webpages and some recruitment based activities such as screening CVs and helping to assess candidates at assessment centres.
So far I have developed and learnt a range of new skills during my apprenticeship programme and have had lots of training and development opportunities. I have been able to develop my presentation skills, through a presentation skills workshop. I have also been able to develop a great deal of knowledge through studying for the CIPD at Farnborough college and will soon be partaking in an excel training course.
I enjoy the programme a great deal. The work I am working on feels meaningful, relevant and useful. I also feel as though I have a good amount of training and development opportunities and am always learning new things. Throughout the apprenticeship programme I have also received lots of support from my team and colleagues.
The programme is very well structured. I attend college on a weekly basis where I study for the CIPD. In September we were provided with a yearly timetable, which outlined the modules we would be studying over the year and when our assignments are due. I also am able to dedicate each Monday to college and studying which is a good way to structure the programme.
I received continuous support from my manager and my team. I always feel as though I am able to contact my manager with any questions or queries I may have and that I am able to rely upon my team for support when needed. My employer also supports me by giving me the time and space to complete my college work and ensure I stay on top of assignments.
I do receive a good amount of support from my training provider. Our teacher is always available to answer any questions we have and give feedback. The teacher is also very clear in explaining the content of the course and the requirements of the assignments. The class is a great, positive and open environment.
The qualification helps to improve my performance at work a great deal. The CIPD provides me with a great deal of very important and relevant knowledge which I feel equips me well to complete my daily tasks at work. The modules link in very well with my day to day activities at work.
I am able to get involved in many STEM activities, which involves interacting with young people and encouraging them to pursue STEM subjects and careers. I have also had the opportunity to be involved in professional networking events such as conferences, expos, and will be going to an awards ceremony soon.
Yes
I would recommend a BAE apprenticeship programme to a friend because it offers a great deal of training and development opportunities and colleagues offer a lot of support. BAE Systems also provide a great working environment by offering flexible hours and the ability to work from home. This is a great as it allows you to work in a way in which you find most productive.
The tips I would advise someone on when applying for BAE Systems is to be keen and enthusiastic about working for the company and for the particular role. You should also be excited about the great deal of training and development opportunities you will have available to you. Be ready to be given responsibility on day one!
